Classical:NEXT is the international conference dedicated to classical music, held in the De Doulen Concert Hall in Rotterdam, so it was a pleasure to be invited to take part in a panel discussion on ‘Empowering the Classical Music Business with Technology’, representing Hebrides Ensemble. I presented on my research on LOLA, the audiovisual streaming technology that allows musicians to play together in real-time over networks when they’re geographically dispersed. And it was great to see such a big turnout for the session. It’s encouraging to see that classical music organisations are seriously considering how technology can help them increase the reach of their audiences and create new opportunities for musicians. There’s more information on the conference on the Hebrides Ensemble site.
